Description
Batanes may be the Philippines’ smallest and least populous province, but don’t let that fool you into thinking that there’s nothing to see in this picturesque destination. It is one of the top tourist destinations in the Philippines and is home to some of the best islands in the Philippines.
The endless view of the ocean, the sprawling hills, the always smiling locals, the freshest seafood, and the peaceful and laid-back vibe continuously intrigue and inspire travelers to explore one of the top destinations in the Philippines called Batanes.
Batanes is known as the “Home of the Winds,” because of its calm and windy weather. Thanks to Philippine geography, it has preserved its postcard-perfect scenery, friendly culture, and simple way of living. Even though it is not as accessible as other destinations, it still is one of the top Luzon tourist spots.
Itineraries
Your 4-day Batanes adventure begins with an early arrival in Basco, where you’ll be welcomed and transferred to your hotel or homestay for breakfast and a brief orientation. After settling in, embark on a full-day tour combining the best of North and South Batan. Start in Basco with visits to Mt. Carmel Chapel and Tukon Radar Station, offering breathtaking views of Mt. Iraya, the Pacific Ocean, and Basco’s iconic hedgerows. Pass by Fundacion Pacita (subject to access), explore the Japanese Tunnel, and marvel at Valugan Boulder Beach’s rugged beauty. In Basco town proper, see Basco Plaza, Casa Real, Kilometer Zero, Aman Dangat, and Sto. Domingo Church. Head south to Mahatao for Chawa Viewdeck, Mahatao Shelter Port, and the historic San Carlos Borromeo Church. Visit Diura Fishing Village and Homoron Lagoon’s striking blue waters, then soak in the rolling hills of Racuh-a-Payaman (Marlboro Country). Continue to Tayid Lighthouse, Alapad Rock Formation, and Uyugan’s cultural sites, including San Lorenzo Ruiz Chapel, Our Lady of Miraculous Medal, and the Song Song ruins. In Ivana, stop at San Jose de Obrero Church, the Honesty Coffee Shop, House of Dakay, and the old Spanish Bridge. End with sunset views at Vayang Rolling Hills and Naidi Lighthouse before returning for dinner.
Day 2, after breakfast, take a scenic boat ride to Sabtang Island, a haven of preserved Ivatan culture. Register upon arrival and visit San Vicente Ferrer Church, then wander Savidug Village’s stone houses and Sto. Tomas de Aquinas Church. Learn about local limestone production, and take in coastal vistas at Savidug Idjang and Chamantad-Tinyan View Deck. Explore Chavayan Village’s traditional homes and Sta. Rosa de Lima Chapel, then relax at Nakabuang Beach and Morong Beach’s natural arch. After lunch, return by boat to the mainland for dinner and a quiet evening.
Day 3 is a restful buffer day, allowing you to relax at your accommodation, stroll Basco’s streets, or revisit a favorite spot like Vayang Rolling Hills for photos. Enjoy breakfast and dinner at your hotel, with the day at leisure to reflect on Batanes’ charm.
Day 4, savor an early breakfast before checking out and transferring to the airport, carrying memories of Batanes’ dramatic landscapes, rich heritage, and warm Ivatan hospitality.
